Portland Trail Blazers big man Jusuf Nurkic had a big game on Sunday against the Boston Celtics, and he also shared some good personal news.

Nurkic confirmed his grandmother, Hannah, is out of a coma after a bout with COVID-19.

Nurkic shared his grandmother's story after Friday's win over the Memphis Grizzlies, asking viewers to take the illness seriously. But it seems Hannah's condition has begun to improve.

The 25-year-old put on a show against the Celtics prior to sharing this personal news. Nurkic scored 30 points on 12 of 20 shooting, also finishing the contest with nine rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block.

Portland nearly pulled off a massive comeback win after trailing by as much as 24 points, and the Trail Blazers still had an opportunity to tie things up at the end of the game. But Nurkic had a rather unfortunate miscommunication with Damian Lillard, resulting in a turnover that essentially iced the game for the Celtics.

Despite the rather unsavory ending, Nurkic has the potential to be a game-changer for the Trail Blazers after missing nearly the entire year due to injury.

Portland remains 2.5 games back of the Memphis Grizzlies for the eighth seed in the Western Conference, though it is also now a half-game back of the Spurs after San Antonio opened with wins in each of its first two seeding games.

However, the Trail Blazers still have every opportunity to reach a play-in for the eighth seed, and they will hope Nurkic can be dominant once again as they take on a “small ball” Houston Rockets squad on Tuesday.

It seems Nurkic can also breathe a little easier knowing his grandmother is in recovery after waking from the coma.
