Despite being sidelined for the rest of the season, Portland Trail Blazers center Jusuf Nurkic has managed to reel in a $1.25 million bonus after his team reached the 50-win mark with a 116-89 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies, according to ESPN Insider Bobby Marks. The bonus was deemed as an “unlikely” one, pushing the team an additional $2.19 million toward the luxury tax.

Nurkic had to appear in a minimum of 70 games (played in 72 before suffering a season-ending injury) and the Blazers had to win 50 games for the bonus to trigger, both conditions were met after Wednesday's win, with four more games remaining in the regular season.

The cap hit for Nurkic in 2019-20 will now be $13.25 million, ranking him as the 28th highest-paid center.

However, the team will also get $875,000 in tax relief when Maurice Harkless fails to reach his $500,000 bonus of shooting 35% from beyond the arc.

The Blazers are the fourth team to reach the 50 wins, as the Western Conference could see as many as six teams reach the 50-win mark, a true testament to the conference's strength.

Nurkic is coming off posting career-high numbers with 15.6 points, 10.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.4 blocks and 1.0 steals per game — numbers eerily similar to his initial 20 games with the team in 2016-17, when he was first traded to the team.
