Portland Trail Blazers president Neil Olshey is hoping Pau Gasol is the missing piece to the team's championship puzzle.

In an interview with Joe Freeman of The Oregonian, Olshey said that Gasol's championship experience will definitely benefit the Blazers. He added that the veteran bog man could play a key role in their quest to finally win a title next season.

“We’re hoping Pau has the championship experience that gets us to that next level and helps us over the hurdle,” Olshey explained.

The Blazers signed Gasol to a one-year deal last week.

Last season, the Blazers were one of the most surprising teams in the league. They came into the playoffs as the third seed and took out the San Antonio Spurs in the first round. They followed it up with an upset of the second-seeded Denver Nuggets in the semi-finals. Unfortunately, they met the Golden State Warriors in the conference finals and got swept.

Portland lost some of their key players in free agency, so they will be hoping Gasol can provide them with more than just his leadership. When healthy, the 39-year-old can still give the Blazers a double-double on a nightly basis. He's already past his prime, but he can still be effective on both ends of the floor.

Gasol is no doubt one of the best big men to play in the NBA in the past 20 years, but there's no denying the fact that he's also at the tail-end of his career. The two-time champion has already accomplished a lot though, and he probably just wants to end it on a good note.
