Portland Trail Blazers veteran big man Pau Gasol claims his body is “doing great.”

Gasol is recovering from surgery to repair a stress fracture in his left foot. The future Hall of Famer would like to play in the preseason for the Blazers, but admits he wouldn’t be disappointed if he doesn’t see any exhibition action.

“So far so good,” Gasol said Thursday, via the Oregonian. “Body’s doing great, now it’s just the ankle getting used to the pushing off and the pushing and holding people and the more explosive moves.

“Obviously I’m super excited to play but I also want to be realistic and not create false expectations on myself. Just follow the process and make sure I do everything correctly.”

Pau Gasol split time this past season with the San Antonio Spurs and Milwaukee Bucks. He appeared in just 30 games and averaged 3.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists while shooting 44.7 percent from the field, 46.2 percent from beyond the arc and 70.0 percent from the free-throw line.

Gasol has career averages of 17.0 points and 9.2 rebounds. At this stage of his career, Gasol can give you some solid minutes off the bench. The Blazers will use Gasol as a backup to Hassan Whiteside and Jusuf Nurkic, the latter of whom is scheduled to return from injury around the All-Star break.
