The NBA's goal is for each franchise to have an affiliate in the G-League. This season, they had a total of 26 teams in the G-League. And recent news reveal that they might add to that tally as the Portland Trail Blazers are closing in on a G-League team.

As reported by Adam Johnson of 2Ways10Days, the Blazers are looking at Nike’s Headquarters in Beaverton as the long-term home of their developmental team.

In a Reddit AMA, G League president Malcolm Turner broke the news that the developmental league will soon have 30 teams, one for each NBA franchise:

We are at a record 26 teams this season, Washington is already confirmed to join for the 18-19 season and we are in active conversations with the remaining NBA teams, New Orleans, Portland, and Denver. All of whom we expect to join in the next 12-18 months.

The home for the Blazers' G-League affiliate is not yet confirmed. But from a business standpoint, it will reap the biggest benefits. Nike, after all, is one of the biggest sports brands out there — which also happens to supply both G League and NBA apparel. It only makes sense to for the NBA and G-League to set up shop at Nike's headquarters.

As of now, only one confirmed team will be added to the G League for the 2018–19 season, the Capital City Go-Go, the G League affiliate of the Washington Wizards. The league is set to tip-off next season with a record 27 teams.
