Portland Trail Blazers guard Rodney Hood tore his left Achilles tendon on Friday against the Los Angeles Lakers.

The players on the team were visibly upset when talking to reporters after the game, as Hood is one of the most popular players on the Blazers and a gifted scorer.

“There’s no words that can help in that situation,” Blazers guard CJ McCollum said. “You don’t just get past something like that. It takes time. We’ve been unlucky lately, and it’s part of the game, but it sucks. It’s a part of the game you hate, you hate to see.”

“We’ve been getting hit from every angle possible,” Blazers forward Kent Bazemore said. “Preseason on the road, 13 of the first 18 on the road, injuries. … I mean, it’s been a whirlwind. Heartbreaking.”

“I don’t even think we should talk about the game, dealing with a situation like Rodney’s injury,” Blazers star Carmelo Anthony said. “He was playing at an all-time-high level, a career start to the season, and with the snap of a finger, his season is gone. So basketball … we shouldn’t be talking about basketball.”
