Rodney Hood has not made a decision about his player option for next season, but he has every intention of playing for the Portland Trail Blazers.

On a conference call with Portland-area reporters, Hood said he has not made up his mind on the $6 million option he holds for next season. Before the COVID-19 pandemic forced the NBA to suspend its season, it was widely assumed that Hood would pick up that option with the Blazers as he continues to rehab a torn Achilles suffered in December.

Hood also shed some light on his rehab from the Achilles injury, which he suffered in the Blazers’ Dec. 6 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. Hood said his rehab has been going well, and he’s hoping to resume on-court activities in June. If it weren’t for the shutdown, he was hoping to be ready to return to action in time for next season’s training camp, which was scheduled to begin in September.

Before his injury, Hood was having the best season of his six-year career. He built on an outstanding 2019 playoff run with the Blazers and solidified himself as a starter for Portland, providing some much-needed shooting. He was hitting his threes at a career-high 49.3 percent from three-point range while averaging 11 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 29.5 minutes per game.

Nobody knows when the Blazers, or any other NBA team, will start playing again. There are a lot of hurdles to clear with regards to the coronavirus before it can get to that point. But Hood’s rehab seems to be going according to plan, and he wants to be a part of this Blazers core along with Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum for years to come.
