Portland Trail Blazers swingman Rodney Hood underwent surgery to repair his ruptured left Achilles in southern California on Wednesday.

Hood will miss the rest of the season for the Blazers.

Hood initially tweaked his Achilles last week against the Sacramento Kings before tearing it. The lefty now faces a long rehab.

The Blazers signed Hood to a two-year, $11.7 million deal in July. He finished this season with averages of 11.0 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 21 games while shooting 50.6 percent from the field, 49.3 percent from beyond the arc and 77.8 percent from the free-throw line.

After defeating the New York Knicks on Tuesday at home, the Blazers improved to 10-15 on the season. They are in the 11th spot in the Western Conference standings after making it all the way to the Western Conference Finals last season.

There is still plenty of time for Portland to turn things around, though, and the team is still waiting for center Jusuf Nurkic to return from his leg injury.

The Hood injury was a sad sight to see given how young and talented he is. More importantly, Hood is a great teammate and guy off the court. The Blazers players were visibly upset when they were speaking to reporters after Hood suffered the injury.
