The Portland Trail Blazers were very interested in acquiring Detroit Pistons star Jerami Grant at the trade deadline, but he ultimately stayed put. The forward could move on this summer though, with a variety of different teams interested.

That being said, the Blazers are still seen as a frontrunner for Grant as they look to retool, not rebuild.

Via Michael Scotto of HoopsHype:

Portland’s going to find itself in an interesting situation where they could have a high draft pick coming up… Maybe if it’s high enough, it’s an offer the Pistons can’t refuse. If Jerami gets traded anywhere this offseason, it’s going to be Portland. It feels like Portland is still the front-runner.

Scotto also noted that after the Pistons played the Blazers the other night, Jusuf Nurkic and Josh Hart both posted pictures on social media of them talking to Grant. Take it for what you will, but it feels like a hint.

Obviously, the players don't make the big decisions, but if the Blazers end up with a top-five pick in the draft, it's hard to imagine Detroit turning that down for Grant. The Pistons swingman has made it clear that he is happy with the organization but after all, they're still rebuilding in the Motor City. Another lottery pick would likely be enough to part ways and send Jerami Grant to the Blazers. Portland would probably include other assets too because they now have a boatload of picks after cleaning house at the deadline.
