The Portland Trail Blazers have built up nice momentum once again after defeating the San Antonio Spurs at home, 111-110, on Sunday for their second win in a row. It’s an extra sweet victory for the Blazers since their star point guard Damian Lillard did not play in that game nursing a calf injury. It was also made sweeter by shooting guard CJ McCollum’s heroics late in the game.

With the Blazers behind by a point with only 5.9 seconds left in regulation, McCollum took matters into his own hands and drove to the basket for the game-winning floater that sailed over former Trail Blazer big man LaMarcus Aldridge’s arms before hanging on the rim and going through the hoop.

The Spurs would get one more chance to score a basket but Aldridge failed to convert on a 19-footer jump shot on the other end of the floor.

McCollum finished the game with a team-high 25 points, making 11 of his 24 shots from the field and 2 of 3 from the free throw line.

With the win, Portland is now 21-18, and the team will aim to complete a three-game win streak for just the second time this season this coming Tuesday at Oklahoma City.

Lillard is questionable for that game against the Thunder, and without him, it would be very tough for Portland to take down Russell Westbrook and company. Nevertheless, McCollum has proven himself as someone capable of carrying the Blazers on his back and leading them in games.

McCollum is averaging 21.2 points, 3.2 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per game this season.
