Video: Blazers star Damian Lillard hilariously calls out Anfernee Simons for not telling him about girlfriend
Portland Trail Blazers guard Anfernee Simmons recently went on an Instagram Live broadcast with his new girlfriend, and unluckily for him, superstar teammate Damian Lillard happened to be one of the viewers. Lillard crashed the broadcast and decided to playfully embarrass Simons.
Lillard had one question in mind throughout the video call: Why wasn’t he informed about Simons’ newfound relationship? The five-time All-Star made sure he got his answer:
The Blazers star was hilarious throughout the call by pushing all the right buttons. Simons was clearly red-faced as his teammate asked him a couple of awkward questions right in front of his girlfriend.
Toward the latter end of the call, Lillard came to realize that Simons had previously opened up to him about his new lover. Unfortunately for Simons, more hilarity ensued … at his expense, of course:
“You’re from Houston… Oh, you did tell me about Bre,” Lillard said (h/t Chris Burkhardt of NBC Sports Northwest). “OK, H-Town, OK. Now you’re spending a little bit of money and you done flew her out.”
Both Simons and his girlfriend laughed off Lillard’s sly remark, but you could clearly feel the awkwardness in the air. This could have resulted in a serious relationship talk between the two, which is probably what Lillard wanted all along.
Simons just had a noteworthy second season with the Blazers, averaging 8.3 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 20.7 minutes per contest. He has been using the offseason to work on his development, and as Lillard implied, that’s not the only this he has been working on during the break.
