The Toronto Blue Jays are promoting top infield prospect Bo Bichette to the major leagues, according to Shi Davidi of Sportsnet:

Bichette had spent the majority of 2019 in High-A and Triple-A, posting a combined slash of .290/.358/.489 and hitting eight homers to go along with 16 stolen bases.

The Blue Jays had an opening at second base after they elected to send Eric Sogard to the Tampa Bay Rays, clearing the way for Bichette to make his debut with the big-league roster.

Bichette was drafted in the second round (No. 66 overall) of the 2016 MLB Draft, and he has been on the rise as a top prospect in Toronto's system since he started playing professional ball. Prior to the star of the regular season, Bichette was ranked as the No. 2 prospect for the Blue Jays behind Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

The buildup to Wednesday's trade deadline has been mostly quiet so far in terms of actual activity, but the Jays have been one of the busiest teams in baseball. After sending Sogard to Tampa Bay, Toronto shipped All-Star pitcher Marcus Stroman to the New York Mets in exchange for a pair of pitching prospects:

Toronto already had one of the best farm systems in baseball, though some of its young talent has quickly graduated to the majors. Vladdy Jr. was always expected to come up this year, but the club also promoted Cavan Biggio, who will now be joined by Bichette as the Blue Jays look to get a glimpse of their middle infield for the future.
