When San Diego Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. signed off on his 14-year, $340 million agreement last year, all eyes were set on just when the rest of MLB’s young stars would also finalize mega contract extension deals as well, including Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Guerrero is currently under team control with the Blue Jays for four seasons, with all of them being arbitration-eligible years.

Guerrero was recently asked on Instagram whether he has received a long-term contract extension offer from Blue Jays officials. His response was short and straightforward.

“No,” Guerrero said.

Guerrero sure will be due for a stout extension deal from the Blue Jays, although it remains to be seen whether it will end up being in the ballpark of Tatis’ $24.2 million average annual value deal. Spotrac does project a market value of $33.9 million per season for the 2021 American League MVP runner-up, which could see him be in line for a grand 13-year, $441 million deal.

In short, Guerrero will have a multitude of options on just which route to take on this notable matter. He could opt for Washington Nationals outfielder Juan Soto’s approach and simply declare that he aspires to instead wait until his free agency period for his mega-deal, which will come following the 2026 campaign.

Overall, Guerrero is coming off of a keen 2021 regular season with Toronto, where he recorded career highs across the board, including in home runs (48).
