The St. Louis Blues were dealt a tough defeat on their home ice against the Colorado Avalanche in Game 3 on Saturday. The loss was made worse by the injury sustained by starting goaltender Jordan Binnington early in the game. After a collision with Nazem Kadri, Binnington was unable to continue due to an apparent knee injury. Now, it looks like he could be shelved for quite some time as he works to recover from the injury. According to Jeremy Rutherford, the Blues are worried that Binnington suffered a knee sprain which would keep him out of the lineup for at least a few weeks.

That's certainly bad news for the Blues. While Binnington didn't have a spectacular season, he's upped his play in the postseason, and was particularly effective against the high-octane Avs offense. Without him in the net, the Blues' defense becomes far more penetrable, and St. Louis could be staring down the barrel of a quick end to the series.
Binnington recorded 51 saves in the overtime defeat against the Blues in Game 1, while surrendering just one goal on 31 attempts in Game 2. Considering the Avs offense is one of the best in the league, not having him available is a huge loss.
27-year-old backup Ville Husso replaced Binnington in Game 3, and will likely be in the cage for the remainder of the season barring an unexpected positive update for the injured 28-year-old. Game 4 is set for Tuesday night, and the series will then return to Colorado for Game 5.
Blues fans will want to wait for an official update on Binnington, but the latest indications don't bode well for his availability for the remainder of the series.
