Before the start of Game 4 of their second round playoff series against the Washington Wizards on Sunday, which the Boston Celtics lost 102-121, Brad Stevens came in to the defense of his backup big man, Kelly Olynyk.

Only a few days after he was shoved by Kelly Oubre after a hard screen he set on him, the Boston Celtics head coach still does not understand why there are a lot of people who think Olynyk is a dirty player.

The 40-year-old explained, via Jay King of Mass Live, that the foul called on Olynyk was reviewed by the league and was only called a common one, and he was even the victim during the incident as Oubre charged and pushed him to the floor.

“I'm not sure where that narrative starts.”

“I guess he set a screen, it was called a common foul, it was reviewed by the league and the league determined it was a common foul. Another guy rushed him and chucked him on the ground.”

Stevens did not deny that his player was involved in a play where Kevin Love got injured, which may be the reason why many perceive him as such, but he said seeing Olynyk everyday gives him a better understanding of how he really is as a person and player.

“I understand all the stories of the past and I understand they've gotta talk about something with three days in between games. But we know Kelly. I'm around Kelly every day.”
