The 49ers have battled several major injuries so far in the 2020 season. They went from NFC champions, to last place in their division. One of the few bright spots of their season thus far has been rookie wide receiver, Brandon Aiyuk.

Aiyuk was taken with the 25th pick in the 2020 NFL draft and has shown his worth early on in his career. Aiyuk has 28 receptions for 371 yards and 2 touchdowns in 7 games this season. He is second on the team in receiving yards and receptions, only behind all-pro tight end, George Kittle. He's also tied for the team lead in receiving touchdowns.

The rookie told NBC sports that part of his success has to be attributed to his hall-of-fame cornerback teammate. Richard Sherman has reportedly taken a shine to Aiyuk, guiding him under his wing in 49ers practice.

“I love having Sherm out there, just his being out there this week,” Aiyuk said. “Just this week alone, just being able to go up against him, he just has some things, vet things, the tools that he has in his bag that you don’t get to see all the time.”

“When you’re going up against older corners, who kind have the little tricks that they do, I get to see it from him at practice,” Aiyuk said. “I’m able to become aware of those things because you don’t know what you don’t know.”

Aiyuk is fortunate enough to have a savvy veteran like Sherman mentor him in practice. Not every rookie wide receiver has these kinds of opportunities. Look out for Brandon Aiyuk to have one of the best rookie campaigns in the NFL.
