Marshall was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania but grew up in Florida where he played basketball, track, and football at Lake Howell High School. After graduating, he received a scholarship offer to play for the University of Central Florida.

Marshall played for four years as a wide receiver for the UCF Knights. He had his best season in his senior year where he had a career-high 74 receptions with 1,195 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. He was also named the MVP of the 2005 Hawaii Bowl where he had 11 catches for 210 yards and 3 touchdowns.

He also started as safety for seven games during the 2004 season due to injuries. Marshall led the entire team in tackles with 51 during that time. In 4 years of collegiate football, Marshall played 44 games, caught 112 passes for 1,674 yards and 13 touchdowns.

During the 2006 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos selected Brandon Marshall with the 199th overall pick in the fourth round. His rookie salary was $3.69 million for four years.

Despite suffering a knee injury during the preseason, Marshall was able to play 15 games in his rookie season. During a game against the Seattle Seahawks, rookie quarterback Jay Cutler threw a pass to Marshall on the right side of the field and he spun away from three tackles en route to a career-long 71-yard touchdown.

On March 22, 2008, Marshall slipped and fell through his television set resulting in him cutting his forearm with multiple lacerations in his vein, artery, tendons, nerves, and muscle. He needed a cast and a sling afterwards. Fortunately, he was cleared in time to practice with the Broncos.

On August 5, 2008, Marshall was handed a three-game suspension by the NFL due to off-the-field legal troubles. He managed to reduce the punishment to a one-game suspension and a fine of $52,353 after appealing the decision and winning.

During the 2008 season, Marshall became the 9th player in NFL history to have back-to-back seasons with 100 or more receptions. He was also chosen to the first Pro Bowl of his career.

On April 14, 2010, the Denver Broncos traded Brandon Marshall to the Miami Dolphins for two second-round draft picks. Along with the trade, Marshall signed a four-year $47.5 million extension with the Dolphins.

The following season, he was selected to his third Pro Bowl where he won the game’s MVP after catching 6 passes for 176 yards and 4 touchdowns.

On March 23, 2012, Marshall was traded to the Chicago Bears for future draft picks. This move reunited him with former teammate Jay Cutler. In this season, he had more than 1,000 receiving yards in the year for the sixth time in his career. He was named to his 4th Pr Bowl and to his First-team All-Pro.

On May 19, 2014, Marshall signed a three-year $30 million extension with the Bears with $22.3 million guaranteed and a $7.5 million signing bonus. Unfortunately, his season was cut short after suffering two broken ribs and a collapsed lung after taking a knee in the back by Dallas Cowboys safety Barry Church.

The Chicago Bears traded Marshall to the New York Jets on March 10, 2015. He then signed a restructured contract with the Jets worth $26 million for three years.

Marshall finished the 2015 season in the top five NFL wide receivers in targets, receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns. He was also named to his 6th Pro Bowl and to the Second-team All-Pro. Brandon was also ranked No. 25 by his fellow players on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2016.

Marshall’s form dipped in the 2016 season which led to him being released by the Jets as the team fully transitioned to a rebuilding stage. He then signed a two-year $12 million contract with the New York Giants. Unfortunately, he only played 5 games after an ankle injury that would require season-ending surgery.

Brandon Marshall signed a one-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks worth up to $2 million with incentives. He would only play 7 games with the team before being released. He was then signed by the New Orleans Saints on November 12, 2018, but was released a month later without appearing in any games.

In his 13 seasons in the NFL, Brandon Marshall earned $80,555,471, according to Spotrac.

In 2014, he was ranked No. 97 by Forbes in their 2014 The World’s Highest-Paid Athletes list.

After his retirement, Marshall has been a regular TV personality as a co-host for Inside the NFL and First Things First.
