The Atlanta Braves already knew they had a bright future when they signed Ronald Acuna and Ozzie Albies to extensions last winter.

But now, their dynamic duo has set about making MLB history. Acuna and Albies became the first 22-or-under teammates in MLB history to win the Silver Slugger Award in the same season:

First baseman Freddie Freeman also won the Silver Slugger at his position.

Acuna picked up right where he left off after winning the National league Rookie of the Year Award in 2018. He nearly became the youngest player in MLB history (and just the fifth ever) to record a season with 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases, and he played tremendous defense in the outfield all season long.

Meanwhile, a late-season shift down in the batting order gave Albies new life. After posting a measly .615 OPS in May, Albies dominated opposing pitching over the course of the last four months. The switch-hitting infielder also showed marked improvement from the left side of the batter's box.

The Braves made headlines when they signed both players to extensions, mostly in a negative light. Opposing executives were miffed when Albies signed for seven years and $35 million, but they were arguably even more incensed when Acuna signed for 10 years and $100 million.

Both contracts are almost certainly going to be a steal for the Braves, who have significantly increased their championship window as they wait for their deep farm to bear fruit.

Freeman is still the heart and soul of this Atlanta team, but Acuna and Albies are the future.
