The San Antonio Spurs are finalizing a contract with franchise staple shooting guard Manu Ginobili to ensure his return for his 16th NBA season with the organization, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Ginobili is coming off playing the least amount of minutes in his career, but showed his mettle and value to the team, when a Kawhi Leonard-less Spurs team was in need of scorers — chipping in with 17, 21, and 15-point performances in San Antonio's Western Conference Finals series against the Golden State Warriors.
The 39-year-old promised to take a break following the season and evaluate the possibility of his retirement with his family, ultimately choosing to come back for yet another season under longtime friend and coach Gregg Popovich.
The Argentinian star averaged 7.5 points, 2.7 assists, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game in his most recent season with the Spurs, but saw those averages spike along with his minutes during his last four postseason games with the team, posting 13.8 points, 2.8 assists, and 1.8 steals per game in 20.3 minutes per outing.
His return will mean a whole lot to the identity of the organization as well as NBA fans worldwide who grew up watching the whirling dervish dazzle those in the stands with his unorthodox, yet effective dribble moves and exciting finishes around the basket.
