Breakwaters, an upcoming survival sim from Soaring Pixel Games will hit its Steam Early Access release date next month. The game is set in a tropical region and has an interesting emphasis on manipulating water physics that sets it apart from other games in the genre.

Breakwaters Release Date (Steam Early Access): October 2021

The official Breakwaters Steam page describes it with the following:

“Explore a procedural world with dangerous ocean depths and massive Titans in an Exploration Survival game that changes the way you interact with water.

Displace water with powerful crystals harvested from the world, delve into its depths to collect rare resources, build walls to contain the ocean or block the waves, and help the people rebuild from the constant destruction. Titans, artifacts from a dead civilization beneath the waves, roam the world causing destruction. Survive with what you can harvest from the land, trade with passing fishermen or at ports, and voyage across the world through deadly storms to find new adventures.”

From the trailer alone, players can immediately see how the game fits in the survival-build-and-craft genre, with several scenes of base-building, combat, and resource gathering. However, only a few seconds in and it starts showing off just how integral manipulating water will be to the game's exploration and puzzles – the game promises over 360 sq kilometers of simulated ocean, which is quite a feat in itself. Then the trailer proceeds to show a roaring kaiju-like Titan shoot off a laser from quite a distance. Similar to other games in the genre, Breakwaters will also offer online co-op, dynamic weather, and a day-night cycle. Again, the Breakwaters early access release date on steam is next month, October 2021.
