On Wednesday night, the Philadelphia 76ers suffered a tough loss against the Memphis Grizzlies in double overtime, 104-99. Not only did they lose the game, but their fans also saw a different side of their young center, Joel Embiid. The 22-year-old Cameroonian is known to be a funny and playful guy on and off the court, but it was a different story that night.

After already playing 27 minutes prior to the start of the second five-minute extension, team doctors had a discussion with Embiid and he was not allowed to continue playing after goingover his minutes restriction. The 7-foot Kansas product was visibly upset and kicked a chair out of frustration.

Sixers head coach Brett Brown recently spoke about Embiid's action and said that he understands him as he is a competitive person. He also admitted how tempted he was to put him back on the court but knows his health and the team's long-term vision on him is more important.

“There it is, on your bench 10 feet from me. It's very tempting. But you just can't do it.

“It's a bigger world than we are living in. It's a far greater vision, a much longer vision that we see. Really, games like tonight, as much as it stings and as much as he was close by and plays at the level that we saw, it's just not wise to do it.”

“I respect that. Very much I respect that. You see how much he wants to help us try to win, how competitive he is. I mean, that's a hard life to live, isn't it? [It is] from everybody's perspective – coaches, teammates, Joel's, fans – but it's just the way it is.”

Embiid is still under a 24-minute cap as he is coming off a pair of foot injuries that have forced him to miss the past two seasons. He has played incredible basketball so far this year even if he is still slowly being eased by the coaches to in-game shape.

The 76ers have a very bright future with Embiid in their fold and it should be taken as good news by their fans that his coach understands his frustrations. Most importantly, they now know how much he wants to help the team succeed and bring back the glory to their storied franchise.
