Milwaukee Brewers lefty Eric Lauer knew he had a tough task ahead on Sunday night against a potent Philadelphia Phillies offense, but it didn't intimidate him the least bit.

Lauer went out and shoved, striking out 13 hitters across six innings of scoreless baseball. He previously had just 10 K's in his first two starts. Following the fantastic outing, Brewers manager put the league on notice when discussing Lauer's performance.

Via AP Sports:

“This is the show that he can put on,” Counsell said. “Against a good-hitting team, I think he showed everybody how's he been pitching, really, the last four months of baseball.”

The Brewers southpaw is just 22-24 in his career, but dominated in August of 2021 and helped Milwaukee make the postseason. Early in 2022, he's 1-0 with a stellar 2.20 ERA in 16.1 innings of work, striking out 23 batters. Lauer's command has also been terrific, giving up just four walks. Following the start, he also revealed it was great to actually punch out hitters, something Lauer doesn't typically do at such a high rate:

“I loved going out there and being able to punch (out) guys,” Lauer said. “I usually don't do that. It's a very good feeling knowing that maybe things are starting to come along.”

The Brewers meanwhile are 10-6 and just took two out of three from the Phillies. Their bats have struggled, but the pitching staff is truly keeping this team afloat right now, especially with Corbin Burnes and Eric Lauer at the top end of the rotation.
