The Milwaukee Brewers could be without star pitcher Freddy Peralta for a while after the right-hander exited Sunday's start with an apparent injury. Via Sophia Minnaert, Manager Craig Counsell revealed after the game that Peralta would be headed to the IL, despite him not having gone in for an MRI yet. Peralta is scheduled to get MRI and further testing done on his right shoulder on Monday, though this update certainly doesn't feel very optimistic.

Peralta notified Counsell of some tightness in his shoulder during a mound visit in Sunday's game. The 25-year-old threw just 3.0 innings in the loss, surrendering 6 hits, 5 earned runs, and 1 walk while striking out 2 batters. He threw a total of 59 pitches before being removed from the game in the fourth inning, replaced by Brent Suter.

It's certainly worrisome that Counsell is already announcing that Peralta will head to the IL, though a more detailed outlook on his injury should become available after he gets an MRI Monday. Losing Peralta for an extended period of time would be a significant blow for the Brewers, though they have a deep rotation with talented arms such as Corbin Burnes and Brandon Woodruff who are more than capable of holding it down in his absence.

Entering Sunday's start, Peralta had a 3-1 record with a 3.53 ERA on the year. He's started seven games for the Brewers and thrown a total of 35.2 innings, racking up 48 strikeouts during that span.

Brewers fans will hope the MRI doesn't turn up anything particularly worrisome and that Peralta's trip to the IL will be a short one.
