The Milwaukee Brewers have acquired right-handed pitcher Jordan Lyles in a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates, sending back fellow righty Cody Ponce in return, according to the team.

This will mark Lyles' second stint with the Brewers, as he made 11 appearances out of Milwaukee's bullpen last year, going 1-0 with a 3.31 ERA.

Thus far in 2019, Lyles has started all 17 of his appearances, going 5-7 with a 5.36 ERA while allowing 88 hits and striking out 90 batters over 82 1/3 innings of work. He has really struggled of late, posting a 15.00 ERA in July.

Lyles was originally selected by the Houston Astros in the first round of the 2008 MLB Draft and went on to make his big-league debut with the club in 2011, appearing in 20 games and making 15 starts. During that time, he went 2-8 with a 5.36 ERA.

The 28-year-old proceeded to spend his first three seasons with the Astros but simply could not find success, as he logged ERAs over 5 in each of his three years with the team.

Lyles then moved on to the Colorado Rockies in 2014 and spent three and a half years with the club, producing mostly poor results. He was released by the Rockies in August 2017 and went on to sign with the San Diego Padres, where he spent parts of two seasons before being selected off waivers by the Brewers last summer.

He then signed with the Pirates in free agency back in December.

Lyles has made 234 appearances and 132 starts in his career, going 36-59 with a 5.29 ERA while surrendering 948 hits and registering 640 strikeouts across 851 frames of action.

The Brewers currently own a record of 56-51 and are two losses behind the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals for first place in the NL Central.
