First-year Denver Broncos coach Vance Joseph has done relatively well when his team is under distress this season. This week, the world might get another chance to see such a thing happen again, as Joseph will be relying heavily upon receiver reserve Bennie Fowler.

With injuries ravaging the receiver lineup, Vance Joseph has no other choice but to turn to Bennie Fowler, if we are being honest.

Emmanuel Sanders (ankle), Isaiah McKenzie (ankle) and Cody Latimer (knee) have already ruled out for the game against the Los Angeles Chargers. When you sprinkle a dose of two-time All-Pro Demaryius Thomas dealing with a calf injury, and the Broncos will be swimming upstream this weekend.

None of this, apparently, concerns Joseph. The first-year coach had nothing but praise to hurl toward the general direction of the now No. 2 receiver:

“I think he does,” Joseph said during a presser when asked if Fowler has the ability to be a legitimate No. 2 wide receiver. “Bennie’s a smart guy, he knows what to do and that’s half the battle as far as being a [No.] 1 or a [No.] 2. I don’t know what that means, I mean you would know better than I would. He’s a receiver and he’s the next guy up, so he’s the No. 2. He was the No. 2 last week from time to time. That has no relevance as far as who plays. When he’s out there, he’s a [No.] 1, you can say that also.”

No matter what happens on Sunday, even if Fowler shines, the Broncos need a healthier receiver group moving forward.
