As the Denver Broncos prepare for the 2019 NFL season in the coming weeks, they’ll be doing so without one of their biggest players on the defensive side of the ball. Star cornerback Chris Harris Jr. continues to hold out from all Broncos programs in an effort to try and get another contract. As the two sides continue to butt heads, Harris’ teammates all continue to offer their support of him.

Speaking to the media after the teams latest OTA, newly signed defensive back Kareem Jackson said via Broncos Wire) that the team would love to have Harris available, but that they aren’t too mad due to the nature of the NFL.

“We definitely want Chris to be here,” Jackson said. “He’s a big-time player in this league. He’ll definitely help us on the defensive side. But, at the end of the day, you know, it’s a business. He has to — obviously he wants to get paid — to have some type of stability so he can take care of himself and his family.

According to Jackson, the team knows it just has to work along with the situation, and act as if he might not be there.

“The rest of [us] guys, we just have to work accordingly. If he’ll be here, we’ll definitely love for him to be here but at the end of the day, we understand it’s a business and sometimes things happen that we all might now want to happen. For the guys that are here, we just have to continue to work.”

Harris is currently entering the final season of his five-year contract, and while he’s slated to earn $8.5 million this season, the superstar cornerback clearly believe she deserves more, especially after being named a Pro Bowl four times and an All-Pro three times (first-team in 2016, second-team in 2014 and 2015).

Regardless, the situation between Harris and the Broncos is far from over, so it’ll be interesting to see how it pans out as the summer continues.
