The Denver Broncos could potentially be short one pass rusher to start the season with Shane Ray set to undergo yet another surgery on his troublesome wrist. Luckily for the Broncos, they should have the means to survive Ray’s potential absence.

Apart from having veterans Von Miller and Shaq Barrett taking up majority of the snaps, they also have Bradley Chubb, the No. 5 pick in this year’s draft, capable of filling in for Ray along the edge. And the incoming rookie has assured everyone that he’ll be ready to go if needed.

“I know Shane is going to do whatever it takes to get back as fast as he can and when he gets back, we’re going to definitely need him,” Chubb said, per Ryan O'Halloran of the Denver Post. “If that causes me to have to step up and step into a certain role, I’ll be prepared.”

Chubb will have the benefit of learning from not just teammate Von Miller, who is one of the most feared puss rushers in the entire league and a willing mentor for the rookie, but also former Broncos linebacker DeMarcus Ware, who has spent some time this offseason coaching up the pass rushers on the team.

Ray should still have a role to play on the team once he returns from his injury. But if Chubb performs well enough in Ray’s absence should he actually miss time, the rookie could potentially overtake Ray in the edge rusher depth chart when it’s all said and done.
