Denver Broncos head coach Vic Fangio indicated that all options were on the table when it came to the prospect of Drew Lock replacing Brandon Allen under center following their abysmal loss in Week 12. It appears to have come to fruition in practice heading into their AFC West showdown with the Los Angeles Chargers.

According to Mike Rice of KOA, general manager John Elway says the two will split practice reps in Week 13.

“We’re going to go through this week and see how both quarterbacks do and then make a decision later in the week,” Elway said.

Fangio had initially downplayed the need for Lock to play in the 2019 NFL season after spending the entire year on injured reserve with a thumb injury. Of course, the abysmal outing by the offense seemingly forced both him and Elway to have a sudden change-of-heart. As a result, it appears Lock could be on track to making his debut against Los Angeles if he can piece of solid week of practice together.

The bar has not been set very high by Allen after he completed just 10-of-25 passes for 84 yards and an interception. Meanwhile, the Broncos registered a franchise-low 134 yards of total offense in the 20-3 loss to the Buffalo Bills. It is difficult to imagine this group performing any worse with Lock under center.

Even if the rookie loses the quarterback battle with Allen in practice, it is not far-fetched to assume that it is only a matter of time before they plug Lock in at some point in the game versus the Chargers.
