The Minnesota Vikings made it clear they were looking for an upgrade under center when they parted ways with quarterback Case Keenum. He will quickly have a chance to show them what they will miss come Week 1 of the preseason when they square off against his Denver Broncos.

Needless to say, Keenum knows exactly what Minnesota brings to the table. According to Aric DiLalla of the team’s website, he is looking forward to facing his old team:

“I got a firsthand view of how good of defense it is,” Keenum said. “I know we’ve got our work cut out for us. It’s going to be a great test. I’m excited to go compete against a really talented defense.”

There is good reason for Keenum to be excited. It goes without saying that the Vikings had one of the most formidable defensive units in the league last season. In fact, it is part of the reason why he was able to enjoy such a spectacular year. Although he will likely only get one or two drives against his former team, it should be a good measurement of how the offense has progressed thus far.

Keenum's success in Minnesota is largely the reason why Denver felt so confident in bringing him in this offseason. The majority of the Broncos' struggles from last season were due to the lackluster play under center. Fortunately, he has looked every bit the part of a competent quarterback after reports suggest he has been “flawless” thus far in training camp.
