If the Denver Broncos ever had a “No Fly Zone,” new quarterback Case Keenum certainly was not aware. At least, that is how he made it seem in response to a question about their diminishing status.

Given the events of the offseason, there has been some speculation as to whether or not Denver still qualifies as such. Although he played coy to their nickname, Keenum acknowledged how impressive the secondary has been in organized team activities, via CBS Denver:

“Is that their nickname? Is that what they’re called? That’s good to know,” Keenum said, laughing off his cardinal sin. “They’re talented, they’re a talented squad. I think that good going against good makes you better. I think competition, not only within positions and yourself, but against a defense coming out here everyday and competing against the ‘No Fly Zone’, it’s going to be really good. I’m excited. It’s fun competition. Those guys are really good.”

The nickname started with the star-studded secondary that helped lead the team to a win over the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50. However, the departure of cornerback Aqib Talib and T.J. Ward has called into question as to whether or not it still applies. Unsurprisingly, Talib and Ward have given their opinion on the matter.

Fortunately, the Broncos still have three out of the five key members of the secondary that won the championship. That said, it will be on Chriss Harris Jr., Bradley Roby, and Darian Stewart to make sure the “No Fly Zone” stays in full effect. Not only will it help Dever maintain its status as a formidable defense, but it will also pay huge dividends for Keenum in practice moving forward.
