There were a lot of shocked when the Denver Broncos traded for Joe Flacco, but there might not have been anyone more surprised by the news than Case Keenum. Keenum said that general manager John Elway called him that morning to explain things and that it was a good conversation but it still shocked him.

“[G.M. John] Elway called me that morning and we had a great conversation, which he didn’t have to do — I appreciated that,” Keenum said on The Sports Spectrum podcast via the Denver Post, with his wife next to him. “It was definitely a shock. It was a surprise for us. . . . For us, we’re definitely disappointed. It’s not something we wanted to happen. I know everybody is doing their job and John feels like it was a chance to help the Broncos out.”

The news of the trade for Flacco means that Keenum is probably going to be moved this offseason by the Broncos, but the big question is where he will be moved. He struggled in his first year with the Broncos and there is some question if a team would trade for him to be a starter.

“It’s really open-ended right now,” Keenum said. “We don’t know what’s going to happen. This is still very fresh. A lot of these emotions we’re talking about are still going on and still happening. Who knows what’s going to be in store? I don’t, for sure.”

Keenum is guaranteed at least $7 million next year, but the question is, will the Broncos or some other team be paying that contract?
