The Denver Broncos landed running back Melvin Gordon on Friday, keeping him in the AFC West.

It was just that latest big move in free agency for the Broncos after they also added defensive lineman Jurrell Casey.

Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu has taken note of Denver's offseason. And he is clearly impressed with what the Broncos have been doing.

Gordon spent the first five years of his career with the Los Angeles Chargers. He is coming off of a 2019 campaign in which he rushed for 612 yards and eight touchdowns while averaging a meager 3.8 yards per carry. He also logged 42 catches for 296 yards and a score.

It should be qualified that Gordon only played 12 games in 2019 as a result of a holdout that took him through the first several weeks of the regular season.

The 26-year-old was originally selected by the Chargers in the first round (15th overall pick) of the 2015 NFL Draft.

He had a quiet rookie season, totaling 641 yards on the ground. The following year, Gordon had a breakout year of sorts, finishing with 997 yards and 10 scores. He also notched his first Pro Bowl appearance. However, he registered just 3.9 yards per attempt.

Gordon then posted his first 1,000-yard campaign in 2017, piling up 1,105 yards while reaching the end zone eight times as a rusher. Once again, though, his efficiency suffered, as he posted a mere 3.9 yards per tote again.

The Kenosha, Wi. native finally had an efficient season in 2018, racking up 885 yards and 10 touchdowns, averaging 5.1 yards per carry. He earned his second Pro Bowl selection as a result.
