Denver Broncos running back Phillip Lindsay was one of the nicest stories in the NFL this past season, rushing for 1,037 yards and nine touchdowns while averaging 5.4 yards per carry during his rookie campaign en route to the Pro Bowl.

The catch? Lindsay went undrafted last year.

Lindsay, who played his collegiate football at the University of Colorado, has a big fan in Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey, a Colorado native, who says he is constantly cheering for the 24-year-old:

“I root for him nonstop,” said McCaffrey, according to Kyle Fredrickson of The Denver Post. “It’s cool seeing another guy from Colorado make it up the ranks and then continue to have such huge success. I’m definitely happy and I think it’s great for Colorado football as well. The more guys that do what Phil is doing is special for guys. You look at the high school talent now, and even younger than that, it gives the kids a sense of pride and somebody to look up to in that position; that can dream and have aspirations of being where he is.”

Lindsay had offseason wrist surgery to repair an injury he suffered late in the season, but he is now healthy and ready to try and replicate his success from this past year.

Meanwhile, McCaffrey is entering his third season and is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he racked up 1,098 yards and seven scores while registering five yards per attempt. In addition, he set a running back single-season record with 107 receptions.
