Condoleezza Rice just fulfilled a lifelong dream. Monday, it was announced the former U.S. Secretary of State would be joining the Walton-Penner Family ownership group, which owns the Denver Broncos. Rice has now broken through into the NFL after a long journey searching for a way in.

Rice served as Secretary of State for George W. Bush from 2005-2009. She earned her PhD from the University of Denver and was once engaged to Broncos legend, wide receiver Rick Upchurch. She currently serves as director of the Hoover Institute at Stanford University. Rob Walton announced the move via press release Monday.

“Secretary Rice is well known as a passionate and knowledgeable football fan who has worked to make the sport stronger and better,” Walton said.

Rice has long searched for a way into the NFL. She was once rumored to be a candidate for the Cleveland Browns general manager position. She joined the Manningcast last season to discuss women breaking into sports, and has finally done so herself.

The Walton-Penner group purchased the Broncos this offseason for a whopping $4.62 billion. The changing of the guard in Denver opened up the door for Rice to join the newest ownership group in the league.

Rice is stepping into an exciting situation. New quarterback Russell Wilson has fans excited for the Broncos potential this season paired with a talented young wide receiver core. It's unknown how much involvement Rice will actually have in the Broncos organization, but she has bought herself into a favorable situation.
