Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton had a breakout campaign in 2019, one that came without the assistance of a consistent, full-time starting quarterback. Now that Drew Lock has been crowned the heir apparent to the starting job entering the 2020 year, Sutton is excited about what he sees moving forward from Lock.

“The dude plays with — he has so much swag and so much heart and so much want to learn,” Sutton said during a Zoom conference call with Broncos reporters Thursday, describing Lock. “Y’all have heard all the stuff about him being around Peyton [Manning]. That should show something. A quarterback going into his second year who is reaching out to a first-ballot Hall of Fame, Super Bowl-winning quarterback and trying to get advice and understanding from him.

“That should show a lot about his character and about his drive and about his want to be successful reaching out to one of the greats to do it.”

After nabbing Lock in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft, veteran Joe Flacco was still tabbed the starter. After injuries forced the door open, Lock grabbed the reins and hasn't let go; the Broncos went 4-1 last season when he started under center.

The Broncos further revamped their offense during the 2020 NFL Draft to give Lock even more offensive weapons, selecting Alabama's Jerry Jeudy and Penn State's K.J. Hamler. Pro Bowl running back Melvin Gordon was also brought aboard in an effort to jump-start the offense and make Denver a significant player in the AFC as soon as this September.
