Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton missed the team's opener due to a shoulder injury, but he suffered a far greater setback in Week 2.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Sutton suffered a torn ACL in Sunday's loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, presumptively ending his season.

Sutton had three catches for 66 yards in Week 2, but his season has been cut devastatingly short by a significant knee injury.

The loss of Sutton will be a tough pill to swallow for Denver, considering general manager John Elway made it his prerogative to add skill position players in the offseason.

Courtland Sutton was named to the Pro Bowl in 2019 after becoming Denver's top target. The 24-year-old hauled in 72 of 124 targets for 1,112 yards and six touchdowns, leading the team in every receiving category.

The former SMU star seemed primed for another big campaign in 2020, particularly given some of the additions Denver made to the receiving corps.

Elway selected a pair of star wideouts this past April, nabbing former Alabama No. 1 Jerry Jeudy and speedy Penn State slot receiver KJ Hamler. With the two rookies joining Sutton and Noah Fant on the offensive side of the ball, second-year quarterback Drew Lock suddenly had his share of weapons. Not to mention, Elway also signed Melvin Gordon to join Phillip Lindsay in the backfield.

But Lock–who also suffered an injury on Sunday–is already down his top weapon with Courtland Sutton forced to sit out the remainder of the year.

Denver's offense once seemed to have very exciting potential. But that excitement has waned a bit in light of Sutton's season-ending injury.
