The Denver Broncos have a revamped coaching staff, and with that makeover comes a brand new system.

Because new head coach Vic Fangio is a defensive guy, the defense is going to be the main focus for the Broncos heading into 2019, and defensive coordinator Ed Donatell already loves the fit of defensive lineman Bradley Chubb:

“The edge players are very important in this 3-4 defense Vic and I have been running for the last eight years,” defensive coordinator Ed Donatell said, according to Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic. “You need guys that can compress the edge and then you need somebody who can rush the passer. (Chubb) can do both of those and he’s very forceful in doing that. We’re happy to have him. We think he can be very productive in that role.”

Chubb is coming off of a terrific rookie campaign in which he played all 16 games and racked up 60 tackles, 12 sacks, a couple of forced fumbles and a fumble recovery, so obviously, the 2018 fifth overall pick out of North Carolina State is going to play a crucial role.

Meanwhile, Donatell coached with Vic Fangio on the Chicago Bears from 2015 through 2018, with Donatell serving as defensive backs coach while Fangio held the post as a defensive coordinator.

This will also mark the third time Donatell has been a defensive coordinator on the NFL level, as he served as defensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers from 2000 through 2003 and then as the Atlanta Falcons' defensive coordinator from 2004 through 2006.

The Broncos won just six games this past season.
