Once superstar Peyton Manning decided to retire after the Denver Broncos won Super Bowl 50, the team was left with a huge void under center.

Fortunately for Denver, the Broncos had options. Two young quarterbacks in the form of Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch. Siemian ultimately took the reigns last season, but now there's a quarterback controversy brewing in Denver.

No decision has been made as to which quarterback will be the starter in Week 1. The competition is close enough that not even go-to wide receiver Demaryius Thomas knows the outcome, via Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

“I have no idea,” Demaryius Thomas told reporters after Saturday’s win over the 49ers regarding whether Trevor Siemian or Paxton Lynch will win the job. “I am sure they have some name in in mind. I have no idea what they will do. We will find out when we go back to work.”

Although the team has yet to announce who has come out on top in this quarterback battle, all signs seem to be pointing to Siemian as the starter moving forward. Siemian has the experience, and it could be argued he's outplayed Lynch throughout the NFL preseason thus far.

Whether Siemian is ultimately given the job remains to be seen. New head coach Vance Joseph may want to see how these two young quarterbacks handle the last two games of the preseason before dubbing a starter for the upcoming season.

The Broncos will get back to work on Sat. Aug. 26 when they face the Green Bay Packers. The preseason finale for Denver will be played on Aug. 31 with the Broncos hosting the Arizona Cardinals at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
