The Denver Broncos are adding quarterback Danny Etling to their practice squad, a move seen as an insurance play for the team behind starter Teddy Bridgewater, who will be rolling in Week 10 against the  Philadelphia Eagles at home without backup Drew Lock.

Here's the announcement made by the handlers of Etling:

However, the deal is not done yet, as of this writing, per Mike Klis of 9 News in Denver.

Lock landed on the reserve/COVID-19 list just before Week 9's game against the Dallas Cowboys on the road, leaving Bridgewater without his main backup in that game. Fortunately for the Broncos, Bridgewater was able to get the job done under center, as he led Denver to a 30-16 win in Arlington, his team's second in a row.

With momentum building up for the Broncos, one of the last things they want to deal with is another quarterback debacle just like the one they had in the 2020 season when they had to turn to wide receiver Kendall Hinton for quarterbacking duties in a Week 12 game against the New Orleans Saints.

Etling was selected by the New England Patriots in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of the LSU Tigers program, though he has yet to see regular-season action in his pro career, thus far. After getting released by the Patriots in September 2018, the team signed him to their practice squad before getting waived again in August 2013. Etling then bounced around the league, as he had stints with the Atlanta Falcons, Seattle Seahawks, and the Minnesota Vikings.
