In the weeks leading up to the 2018 NFL Draft, there has been growing speculation that the Denver Broncos are leaning toward the possibility of taking a quarterback with the fifth overall pick. General manager John Elway has been open to the idea despite already having a starter in place with Case Keenum on a two-year, $36 million deal via free agency last month.

The Broncos have continued to drop subtle hints that this may well be the case with the various workouts and visits scheduled with a few of the top quarterbacks in this year's draft. According to JJ Stankevitz of NBC Sports Chicago, the Broncos appear to be zoned in on taking former Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield.

In the last few months, Mayfield has continued to see his draft stock climb with the various workouts and interviews he has conducted with several teams. Among those organizations are these very Broncos.

Mayfield has impressed teams with his ability to throw the ball with great accuracy while showing much poise in the pocket. There have been questions about his maturity level that could be an issue at the next level, but his skill set on the field has received comparison to the likes of Seattle Seahawks' Russell Wilson and New Orleans Saints' Drew Brees. These are some big shoes to fill, but the fact that he has been linked to both of these players speaks to his promising potential.

That said, the Broncos may be beaten to the punch to take Mayfield as the New York Jets, who currently hold the third overall pick, have been linked to him. The team is believed to have moved up to that selection just to be able to snag him that early in the draft. Regardless if that is the case, it is clear that Mayfield could be a shoo-in as a top-five choice later this month.
