Kevin Hogan needs to play in preseason games. Joe Flacco does not. This relates to a preseason playing decision made by an AFC West underdog.

The Denver Broncos have a new group of quarterbacks and hope they will finally find their guy. Recently, reports have come out on which quarterback is expected to get the nod in the Hall of Fame Game on August 1 versus the Atlanta Falcons.

According to Mike Klis of 9News, the Broncos are expected to start Kevin Hogan under center in the Hall of Fame Game. Hogan is one of four new quarterbacks on the roster.

This offseason, Denver traded for Joe Flacco from the Baltimore Ravens to upgrade at the quarterback position. The Broncos also picked Drew Lock in the second round of this year's draft and signed Brett Rypien as an undrafted free agent.

It remains to be seen if Lock or Rypien gets any play in the Hall of Fame Game after Hogan starts. As expected, Flacco won't take the field at all and will probably get limited snaps throughout the preseason, like most first-teamers in the NFL.

As for Hogan, he comes from the Cleveland Browns, where he spent the 2016 and 2017 seasons. Then, he was traded to the Washington Redskins before the 2018 season. He was cut before the regular season began and the Broncos claimed him off waivers.

Earlier this offseason, Hogan re-signed with Denver to compete for the backup job against the rookie. Lock has to get adjusted to the speed of the NFL, so for now, Hogan might have the edge in the competition.

Nonetheless, as it currently looks, the Broncos will likely keep three quarterbacks on their roster for the 2019 season: Flacco, Hogan, and Lock.
