The Denver Broncos will undoubtedly be in the market for a quarterback after their roster moves on Saturday. Among the moves, Denver is going to place rookie Drew Lock on the injured reserve list to begin the season.

The Broncos selected Lock with the 42nd overall pick in this year's draft out of Missouri. The rookie quarterback was expected to be the team's backup quarterback to veteran Joe Flacco. Instead, he will be on injured reserve, which means he will miss the first eight weeks of the season.

After placing Lock on injured reserve, general manager John Elway said that the move doesn't change much for their plans for the rookie quarterback (via the Denver Post):

“It’s not a year off for him,” Elway said. “He’s going to be able to do everything other than being on the football field. And he’ll be able to work on his own and do some different things there, too. I expect him to continue to work hard and get a good feel with everything and keep learning with the offense, understand what he’s doing there and be right in the middle of everything.”

Lock sprained his thumb on his throwing hand in Denver's Week 3 preseason bout against the Seattle Seahawks. Since then, the 22-year-old signal-caller has missed practices and was absent from the team's preseason finale versus the Arizona Cardinals.

Heading into the season, the Broncos are committed to Flacco as their starter to kick off the regular season. However, Denver was hoping to have Lock sitting behind him to develop for the future.

Just a day after the Broncos placed Lock on the IR, the team now only has one active quarterback on their roster. Therefore, they will be scouring the free agent market for backup options.
