One of the most unfortunate things to see is players having their seasons ended in preseason before the regular season starts. Whether it be a roster cut or a serious season-ending injury, it's never easy to see. And unfortunately enough for undrafted rookie Austin Fort, he experienced the latter.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Fort suffered a torn ACL  in the preseason opener against the Seattle Seahawks and will be out for the season.

The tight end was already looking to be a pleasant surprise going into the second preseason game for the Denver Broncos as he was getting first-team reps. It's due to the many injuries to the tight ends in front of him. And subsequently enough, the injury bug got to Fort as well.

The preseason is a time in which undrafted rookies are rooted for by fans to be those great steals for the team for seasons to come. Much like how Philip Lindsay was for the Broncos last season. And Fort was looking to be yet another undrafted rookie that would impress and put together a solid season for the Broncos.

Vic Fangio was someone that talked up the Wyoming product as someone that was impressing the coaching staff.

He’s gotten a lot of reps because of those injuries [at tight end]. I think he’s gotten worn down a little bit, but eventually all those reps will come back to really help him. [I’m] anxious to see him play.

Now Fort will have to watch from the sidelines and work on getting himself back on the field with his rookie season over. He finished his second preseason game with one catch for 29 yards and would be injured on that play.
