Earlier this morning, it was speculated that Denver Broncos defensive lineman Derek Wolfe could be out for the remainder of the season due to an elbow injury he sustained during his team's win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

Well, it looks like that fear has become a reality.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Broncos are placing Wolfe on the injured reserve list, which will effectively end his 2019 campaign with four games left to play.

Wolfe, who collected five tackles and a couple of sacks in the victory, said after the game that he thought he dislocated his elbow and that the injury “doesn't look good.”

The 29-year-old was in the middle of what was arguably the best season of his NFL career, as he had logged 34 tackles, seven sacks and a forced fumble in the 12 games he had played.

Wolfe played his collegiate football at the University of Cincinnati and was originally selected by Denver in the second round (36th pick overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft.

He appeared in every contest during his rookie campaign and was impressive, finishing with 40 tackles and six sacks. Injuries then limited him to just 11 games in 2013, and in 2014, he had a rough season, totaling 38 tackles and 1.5 sacks.

Wolfe rebounded in 2015, tallying 50 tackles and 5.5 sacks as part of a dominant Broncos defense that won a Super Bowl. He posted similar numbers in 2016, recording 51 tackles and 5.5 sacks. He had accumulated just 3.5 sacks combined in 2017 and 2018.

The Broncos are 4-8 on the season.
