The Denver Broncos made a concerted effort to give quarterback Drew Lock some more weapons ahead of his sophomore season. Denver selected former Alabama wide receiver Jerry Jeudy in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, and subsequently took Penn State burner K.J. Hamler with their second-round pick.

John Elway also signed Melvin Gordon to form a two-headed monster in the backfield with Phillip Lindsay, and Denver also signed former Detroit Lions guard Graham Glasgow.

Broncos wideout Courtland Sutton said Lock will have more freedom to make his own reads and exploit mismatches given the added weapons on the field.

Sutton also said he believes all of these additions could make Denver's offensive unit “unguardable” in 2020 (via DNVR):

“[Coach Shurmur] giving Drew the flexibility to be able to, if he sees a mismatch, take advantage of that and not saying, ‘Oh we’ll come back to that next series’ or something like that. If [Lock] sees a mismatch or something that he can take advantage of, it’s something that he can do and they’re giving him the freedom to be able to do that,” Sutton said.

“I think that’s going to be something that’s huge for us as an offense growing because we get into a situation where Drew and everyone else in the offense gets really comfortable with the offense and we know what we’re supposed to do, then it becomes pretty much like an unguardable situation where Coach Shurmur’s always going to call the best play for us to be successful, but Drew understanding the offense, and the rest of the guys on the offense understanding the offense to a full, we can run any type of check we need to to be able to get the ball to the right spot for the defense that we’re going against.”

Sutton proved pretty dangerous himself in 2019.

The 24-year-old hauled in 72 receptions for 1,112 yards and six touchdowns last season, and he should have more opportunities for explosive plays given the presence of Jeudy and Hamler.

Denver ranked just 26th in offensive DVOA last year, but they should see drastic improvement as Lock looks to take advantage of the new personnel.
