On Tuesday, Denver Broncos cornerback De'Vante Bausby shedded some light on the situation that forced him to leave Sunday's 20-13 win over the Los Angeles Chargers prematurely.

Bausby was placed on a backboard in the second quarter of the win after an accidental helmet-to-helmet collision with teammate Alexander Johnson. Bausby told reporters on Tuesday that he was paralyzed for 30 minutes after the hit, per Mike Klis of 9News. He said he was awake the whole time.

Bausby said, on if he was nervous or not:

“Little bit… I was never unconscious. I just couldn't move, but I was still talking and everything. The doc, the neurologist said I was going to be fine and I just trusted that, and after about 30 minutes I was able to wiggle my toes and after a couple hours I was able to regain full mobility, so I was straight, I was fine. … They said I was paralyzed for 30 minutes; after 30 minutes I could wiggle my toes and after two hours I could move everything else.”

After the Broncos training staff removed Bausby's facemask and took him out of the stadium, they transported him to the Los Angeles Trauma Center. He underwent several tests before eventually rejoining his team.

According to the Broncos official website, coach Vic Fangio told reporters on Monday that Bausby is out indefinitely with a cervical sprain.

“[Bausby] is doing good,” Fangio said. “No timetable on his return yet. He'll definitely miss some time. [I] don't know if it will be the entire rest of the season or not. [With] these [injuries], the first few days and week will kind of tell the story.”

In five games with the Broncos in 2019, Bausby has 12 combined tackles and three pass deflections while starting twice.
