The Denver Broncos will give Drew Lock his regular season debut on Sunday when they face the 4-7 Los Angeles Chargers. The expectation is that the rookie quarterback won't just dip his toe in the water. He's submerging.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Lock is expected to start the remainder of the 2019 season. He will be the Broncos' third starting quarterback of the year, with Joe Flacco and Brandon Allen coming in before him.

The Broncos activated Lock to their active roster on Saturday. He previously was on the injured reserve for the entirety of the season due to a thumb injury suffered in the preseason. The rookie quarterback began practicing in Week 11 before the Broncos began ramping up his snaps to see regular season action.

Coming out of Missouri, Lock earned his fair share of fans in the 2019 NFL Draft for his strong arm, comparable, to some, to Matthew Stafford. He warranted legitimate first-round hype before the event before ultimately falling to an eager Broncos team in the second round.

In four seasons as a Missouri Tiger (three as a full-time starter), Lock threw for 12,193 yards, 99 touchdowns and 39 interceptions on a 56.9% completion rate. In his senior year, he upped his completion rate to a career-high 62.9% while throwing for 3,498 yards, 28 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He threw 44 touchdowns the year before.

Lock had his pre-draft fans. However, most of them recognized that he is far from a complete product. For the Broncos, trotting him out in a wasted season could lead him gain those reps to tap into that sky-high potential.
