The Denver Broncos made a bevy of moves during the offseason, but none of that will matter unless Drew Lock can become the team's franchise quarterback. Ahead of his second season in the NFL, Lock is ready to prove himself to the Broncos.

“I know there’s been a lot of talk about the quarterbacks in Denver,” Lock said, via ProFootballTalk. “You know, Peyton was the man there, obviously. We’ve had some good ones, and up-and-down [QBs] in there, and I didn’t want to be that for John. I wanted to be a steady guy for him. I wanted to show everybody that they drafted the right quarterback.”

Back in 2012, Broncos general manager and former legendary quarterback John Elway hit the jackpot when he was able to sign Peyton Manning in free agency. Manning, who spent 11 years with the Indianapolis Colts, was coming off of a serious neck injury that sidelined him for the entire 2011 campaign.

Nevertheless, Manning brought instant success to Denver, making a Super Bowl in just his second season with the team. Despite losing in 2013, Manning would redeem himself by winning a Super Bowl with the Broncos in 2015. After winning another Super Bowl, Manning retired after the 2015 season.

Since Manning's retirement, the Broncos have gone through their fair share of quarterbacks. From Brock Osweiler to Trevor Siemian, none of them have panned out the way Elway envisioned them to.

Regardless of the previous failures, there is a sense of optimism surrounding Lock, the team's second-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Even though Denver has fallen short of finding a long-term answer under center, Lock is prepared to prove he isn't just a placeholder for the next signal-caller.
