The Denver Broncos sustained a gaping hole in their offensive rotation as they lost to the Tennessee Titans on a 16-14 nail-biting encounter on their opening game of the season. Running back Phillip Lindsay was sidelined on Monday night with a turf toe injury which puts his status in question for their next game.

ESPN Senior NFL insider Adam Schefter disclosed the injury situation of the 26-year old rusher via Twitter:

The former Colorado standout carried the ball seven times for 24 yards and made one catch for 11 yards before exiting the contest. The newly-acquired veteran in Melvin Gordon III slotted in the position and took the majority of the snaps at running back in the second half in lieu of Lindsay's absence. He finished with 78 yards and one touchdown on 15 carries, and he caught three passes for eight yards.

Philip Lindsay has been a revelation for the Broncos ever since they acquired him as an undrafted free agent prior to the 2018 season. He went on to ball out in his rookie year en route to a PFWA All-Rookie team selection and a Pro Bowl appearance. He carried the momentum in his sophomore season as he eclipsed the 1,000 rushing yard mark yet again in 2019.

His indefinite absence will be a big blow to Denver's offensive rotation. The team also missed his presence and scoring abilities as they failed to complete a late-game comeback on their opening game against the Titans.

With Lindsay's playing status still up in the air, the Broncos' other offensive weapons should all step up if they want to steal a win against the Pittsburgh Steelers on September 20.
