Denver Broncos right tackle Ja'Wuan James is not expected to be back in action against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. He is more likely to return in Week 7, against the Kansas City Chiefs on “Thursday Night Football.”

James suffered a knee sprain 10 snaps into the season opener. The starting right tackle was limited all week. Broncos coach Vic Fangio did not sound confident in where he is at on Thursday.

He’s coming along OK,” coach Fangio said via Chad Jensen of Milehigh Huddle. “Just OK.”

James' delayed return to action isn't just due to the severity of the injury or getting back into football shape. As Fangio said, “it's both.”

“Getting back into it after such long layoff is an issue, and that’s mainly the biggest issue, but he’s still feeling his way with the injury,” said Fangio.

The Broncos signed James away from the Miami Dolphins in free agency to the tune of four years and $51 million. They did so knowing of his injury history, as he has not played a full season since 2014, his rookie year.

Elijah Wilkinson will remain as the starting right tackle with James out. According to Pro Football Focus, he is No. 1 in the NFL in sacks allowed, with six. He grades out at a lowly 51.7.

The Broncos are likely playing it safe with James' injury, as they hope for his availability in a big Week 7 game on a short week.

Nonetheless, they will have to go another week without a key starter on their line.
